How do you know when a daily disposable contact lens brand really does what it says on the tin? When the company founder has actually invented daily disposable contact lenses, of course.
This is the story of daysoft® contact lenses and how our relentless tenacity in the pursuit of excellence and affordability, groundbreaking technology and our before unique Soft-Edge design makes us the safest, most comfortable option.
Why is daysoft® the safest way to wear contact lenses?
Our state-of-the-art facility in Blantyre, Scotland, only makes daily-disposable lenses, because wearing fresh, sterile lenses every day is the healthiest and most convenient way to wear contacts.
Our highly skilled workforce manufactures medical devices that are subject to strict UK, European and global regulatory standards. Our processes means that although our lenses are affordable, they are manufactured to the highest standards – we never compromise on quality.
Our unique INPAC® manufacturing process means the lens is formed entirely in the pack, so imperfections are avoided and hygiene is improved because the lens is never handled.
As the first and only ‘design, make and supply’ contact lens company in the world, we make contact lens correction the safest and most affordable for all.
Why are daysoft® the most comfortable contact lenses?
It’s the shape of your contact lens edge, not its thickness, that determines how comfortable your lens is to wear. That’s why we’ve developed a unique contact lens edge design that provides you with all-day comfort.
Soft-Edge™ technology
Our Soft-Edge technology means that, unlike the conventional contact lenses shapes that have a bevelled edge, daysoft® lenses have a rounded, continuous edge. This allows your eyelids to glide smoothly over the lenses when wearing them. The fact that they’re 58% water and made of a flexible hydrogel material means they’re super-comfy to wear, as well as keeping your eyes hydrated and fresh.
They’re oh-so-easy to insert, too. Even though they’re ultra-thin, our lenses are always located in the blister pack in the same way. This means they’re never folded, thanks to our innovative INPAC technology. All you need to do is ‘scoop’ them onto the soft tip of your finger for confident handling and easy onto-eye insertion, every time.
Breathable lenses
It’s not unusual for your eyes to feel tired or dry after 12 hours of wear. However, your eyes get all the oxygen they need with our proven, comfortable contact lens material.
It’s all down to oxygen permeability – how the lens material allows your eye to ‘breathe’. This is measured in Dk units. D (diffusivity) represents how fast oxygen moves through the material. k (solubility) indicates how much oxygen is contained in the material. To calculate the oxygen transmissibility of a contact lens, Dk is divided by t (thickness of the lens material).
daysoft® contact lenses have a Dk of 26. In fact, research shows that a Dk of 20 is sufficient for healthy eyes. And, like all leading brands of daily-disposable lenses, daysoft® contact lenses exceed this requirement.
Silicone hydrogel lenses are often sold on the premise that their higher Dk values are better, they are more oxygen permeable, and that more oxygen reaching the eye, compared with conventional hydrogel lenses, is much better for eye health. However, the amount of oxygen ultimately consumed by the eye is exactly the same as with hydrogel lenses, like daysoft®.
daysoft®: trailblazers in innovation and expertise
We’ve always been ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation and design. Our Chairman, Dr Ron Hamilton CBE, has been the vision and driving force behind daysoft® from the very beginning. He’s always innovating and striving for better, inspired by a passion for making healthy, affordable eye care accessible for all.
In fact, it’s thanks to Ron that daily disposable contact lenses exist at all. After all, he invented them.
After a 20-year career in electronics and appliances, Ron was offered a job by CooperVision in an entirely different line of work: contact lenses. Driven by the belief that a daily contact lens is more hygienic, Ron began designing a new process for the production of contact lenses.
He soon realized that they could cut the price of a soft contact lens by 99%, making daily disposable contact lenses an affordable option for everyone. So, in 1993, after securing enough funding, he opened a factory in Scotland and launched the first daily disposable contact lens.
After selling the patent to one of the world’s biggest eye care companies a few years later, Ron was disappointed that the price of daily contact lenses remained so high that they were still unaffordable for most consumers.
Ron decided to re-enter the market with an affordable, high-spec daily disposable contact lens. daysoft® was born! He built the world’s first laboratory solely dedicated to the manufacture of daily disposable contact lenses, striving to lead the market with the safest, most affordable experience for all lens wearers.
Now, daysoft® is the only company in the world to make and sell contact lenses directly to customers. By cutting out the middleman and passing the savings on to the customer, daysoft® has sold over 1 billion lenses to wearers around the world.
